Day 4 - Quebec City, Quebec to Ottawa, Ontario.

Tuesday 7th June (Eastern Time)

We had a lovely evening in Quebec City and a good sleep. However our bodies are still on Atlantic Time so we were up early and Gary went out to find one of the caches we couldn't find yesterday - I think he had been dreaming about it. Then we both had a walk before breakfast - just as well we had the exercise as breakfast was huge, 3 courses, and delicious.
We just drove today. We wanted to get past Montreal while the roads were relatively quiet and into Ottawa with plenty of time to explore. We mainly drove through farming country but there were very few animals in the fields - huge grain stores implied that any animals are kept inside rather than running free and eating grass - that made me sad.
The weather was changeable, one minute hot sunshine the next heavy rain - we were hopeful that we would be able to explore Ottawa without getting too wet.
It was very exciting arriving into the city via Gatinau as we could see the Parliament buildings across the river.
We are now back in English speaking Canada and in the province of Ontario.
We are staying in a condo which we rented though Airbnb. It's lovely - small but stylishly decorated and with everything we could ever need - including a washing machine.
We used Uber to get into the centre of town, stopping near the art gallery, Notre Dame Cathedral and a huge, really huge statue of a spider! We then walked past the Rideau Canal up to the Houses of Parliament. We were hoping to look around inside but the last English tour for the day was booked up. Instead we thought we'd get a few geocaches but luck wasn't with us and we couldn't find them and it was difficult to look properly with so many people around.
Instead we returned back to our apartment and went in search of some dinner.
Returning to the condo we managed to let ourselves into the wrong building - it looked exactly the same. You can only imagine our surprise when we got to our door number to find it had moved from a corner position to the middle of the corridor. I honestly thought I was going mad! Luckily Gary realised our mistake before I phoned the men with the straight jackets!

Our milage from home so far is 1216km.

views across farmland

We had a picnic lunch with cheese from the fromagerie we visited yesterday and ham and bread from the epicerie we stayed at last night. The sun came out for a bit and we watched a man fish in the river.

Quebec this side and Ontario the other side of the Ottawa River.

We brought a stowaway to the city with us!

Ottawa comes into view

It was quite exciting to spot the Houses of Parliament

Our condo was on the second floor

A seriously big spider

aaaaggggghhhhh! It's behind you!

The Rideau Canal connects Ottawa to Lake Ontario and is 202km long!

Us on Parliament Hill!
Next time we will be more prepared and pay a visit inside!
